Counted

Calorie & macro tracker

The calorie tracker that does what MyFitnessPal used to do — without the ads, without the monthly Premium tier, and without sending your eating habits to a server somewhere. Everything you log lives on your phone.

New: open your backup on a big screen

Export a backup from the app, drop it on the Counted Backup Dashboard, and get multi-year trends, a printable summary for your dietitian or doctor, and an honest answer to "where are my calories actually going". You can also build custom foods and recipes on a real keyboard and send them back to your phone.

It runs entirely in your browser. Your backup is never uploaded — there is no server behind that page to upload it to.

Support

Something broken, a food missing from the database, or a question the answers below don't cover? Email [email protected]. A real person reads it.

If you're reporting a bug, it helps enormously to include your phone model, whether you're on iOS or Android, and what you were doing when it went wrong.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. Counted has no sign-in, no email capture, and no user profile on any server. Your log lives in a local database on your phone.

Where is my data, exactly?

In a SQLite database inside the app's private storage on your device. It is included in your phone's own encrypted backup (iCloud or Google), and it goes nowhere else unless you export it yourself. There is no Counted-operated server holding your food log.

How do I move to a new phone?

Your purchase moves separately: tap Restore purchases in Settings, signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account.

I bought Pro and it's not showing up.

Go to Settings → Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same store account you bought it on — a purchase belongs to that account, not to the phone. If it still doesn't appear, email us with the store receipt and we'll sort it out.

A food is missing or has the wrong numbers.

You can fix any food's nutrition locally, and create your own foods that never expire. Counted also keeps a list of searches that found nothing, on your device only — Settings → Missing foods lets you review that list and choose to email it to us. Nothing is sent in the background.

Which AI does the photo logging use, and what does it cost?

Whichever you choose. Paste an Anthropic or OpenAI API key into Settings and Counted detects the provider from the key. The image goes from your phone straight to that provider, on your account and your bill. We never see it and never proxy it. On-device label OCR needs no key at all.

Does it work with Apple Health / Health Connect?

Yes, and every permission is opt-in. Counted can read weight, active and resting energy, blood glucose and sleep so your targets reflect what you actually burned, and can write the meals you log back out for other apps to use. Grant nothing and the app still works fully.

Is there a web version?

There's the backup dashboard — it reads a backup you export and gives you charts, reports and a food-and-recipe editor on a real keyboard. It is not a synced web app: there's no account and nothing of yours is stored online, which is the whole point. Anything you build there comes back as a file you restore on your phone.

You don't have to move the file by hand. Settings → Send to this computer encrypts your backup on the phone, shows you a short code, and you type that code at sedx.llc/counted/link to pull it straight into the dashboard. Half the code is the key and never leaves your phone, so the thing in the middle is holding bytes it cannot read — and it throws them away within 24 hours. Still no account.

Can I delete everything?

Uninstalling the app removes the database with it. Inside the app, individual entries, custom foods and recipes can all be deleted; a custom food with history behind it is archived rather than deleted so past days still show what you actually ate.

Privacy

Counted collects no food entries, weights, or health data. The full policy covering every app is at sedx.llc/privacy.
